Discovering the Benefits of Evening Primrose Oil
Do you take any additional supplements to help you improve your health and well being? I know my diet is mostly lacking in a lot of things but with my recent diagnosis of Fibromyalgia, I have accepted that sometimes, no matter what I do, I still won’t always feel 100% and if I do, it won’t be for long. So I have been looking at different things I can do and take to help me ease some of my symptoms and feel a little bit more like me. The ‘me’ with the energy, not the permanently tired version that is currently on show.
The Benefits of Evening Primrose Oil.
One of the most widely known supplements that have great benefits for many people is Evening Primrose Oil. It is taken by many people to ease the effects of a wide range of ailments. It is widely used for eczema, psoriasis and acne. With people taking it for Rheumatoid Arthritis, MS and Osteoporosis amongst others, Evening Primrose Oil promotes healthy skin and nails and can also ease the effects of PMS in women too.

Fibromyalgia and Evening Primrose Oil

I have been taking the Evening Primrose Oil capsules for at least 3 weeks now. I have been pleasantly surprised to find they actually some great benefits. Although, not so much for my Fibromyalgia (FM) symptoms.
My nails are so strong and healthy-looking. As I have a manual job, my nails can take a bit of battering and rarely grow as long as they can do. But recently I have noticed they are growing and are a lot stronger than they have been of recent months. But my favourite thing is this…….
Over the past few months, thanks again to the FM, I have been getting period pains. Only, last month, none, nothing, no pain. At all. If this is one of the benefits of taking Evening Primrose Oil capsules, then I am sold. Granted, they aren’t as bad as they were before I had Olivia. But to have them come back after nothing for over 12 years, it isn’t something I ever wanted to experience again. So this has pleased me no end. Honestly, I didn’t even realise until I came to write this post and had to have a good think about any changes to anything.
Will I Continue To Take Evening Primrose Oil?
Absolutely, for me even if the only benefit of Evening Primrose Oil is reducing my period pains, then I will definitely keep taking them. As everyone is different I can imagine different people will get different results and see different benefits. However, for me, I will keep taking them and see if in the long term they will help with my FM symptoms and not just my period pains. But if the only benefit for me is just that, then I will still keep taking them.

I’ve heard of evening primrose oil but never taken it. I didn’t realise it could help with period pains, so I might give this a try.
This has been recommended by my eye specialist too – he’s cited loads of studies about the benefits particularly immune compromised people
Too early for me to say if its effective
Interesting that it is helping your nails grow strong and healthy. The quality of supplements can vary enormously so it’s good to know this Epsilon product has one of the highest levels of GLA.
I am a lifelong fan of Spirulina tablets as a general pick me up, especially for fussy teens who don’t have a varied enough diet to get all the vitamins and minerals they need.
An interesting read, thank you
I take b12 – it’s an amazing natural anti-depressant. It won’t work if you’re severely depressed, but for mild anxiety or low feelings, it’s great.
I would love to take evening primrose but until my oncologist says it’s definitely safe for me with my medication then I daren’t.
