What is a grown up?

What is a grown up? Do you know one? Have you met one? Are they what you imagined them to be?

Remember when you where a kid and you played at being grown ups with fancy clothes on, mums heels too with a glass in hand for your grown up drink that only grown ups have. When you played make believe and imagined that you where all sophisticated with an important job and people wanted to be like you.

When you became a teenager and no-one understood you, when you yearned for the day to be able to say no I am grown up now and you will take me seriously, did it happen or are you still waiting.

To be in a rush to do all those grown up things to prove you were, did it help? Did it make you happy?

Are you happy now you are older? Are you more mature now or do you feel lost? Did happen all to fast, creep up on you behind your back and, bam, there it was, welcome to your older years? Did you grow up or are you fighting it now?

What makes a grown up? Is it a career, or maybe lifestyle? Is it marriage and a ring and happy home life? Does buying your own home make you a grown up or just moving out of home? Or is the birth of your children or does that not count? Is it knowledge or is it wealth? Happiness or your health? Love or is it freedom, responsibility or none?

What is it or does it exist? Are grown ups real or just something that is? Or are you still waiting despite the years ticking by?

*I wrote this post to express my feelings and fears and horror at my upcoming 33rd birthday. It is a piece of fiction and I hope you enjoy reading it, ps all opinions on this subject welcomed too*

You always learn so much as the days pass by. And yet with the learning comes more questions and more questions that makes you feel like you are not really gaining any ground. I think this is growing up. This is being a grown up. Learning and asking questions and getting some answers and having more questions. I hope that I am making some sense =) #sharewithme

Ah, 33 is nothing. I am 37 this year! My eldest is so desperate to be a grown up and even me telling her it is boring doesn't put her off! x x

I'm in my forties now and still think that I'm faking being a grown-up most days! When I was younger I honestly thought that adults knew everything, how wrong can a person be?

I admit to wondering this too. I often feel like I am pretending to be a grown up, when really I have no idea what I'm doing. Glad I am not the only one! #sharewithme

I am always saying I feel like I am practicing being a parent or grown up that I don't feel like one yet even though I just turned 30 and that for me was really weird too as I looked down at my two kids I still think will I ever feel like a grown up or someone just dressing for the part. Lovely post. Thank you so much for linking to Share With Me. #sharewithme

I am struggling to accept that I am actually going to be this old, when I actually don't feel it!

I know exactly what you mean! When I was at primary school I looked up to year six students as the grown up ones then you get there and you still feel little. Then secondary school comes and the six formers are hugely grown up until you get there yourself ha ha I think the pattern continues. We will always feel young at heart ! #iPotLinkup

Oh god. I'm 36 and still feel a child. I think 40 will be grown up. Then I know I will push it to 45. And then 50!!! I doubt I will ever feel old enough to be a grown up xxx
