Here we are again! I know it’s been a while since I last posted and I totally missed my deadline. But things have been slightly manic this month, to say the least! But that’s enough about my drama, let’s get back to Ariel and Jonny’s dramas and find out exactly how he reacted to Ariel’s bombshell! As always part one, After the Beach, Ariel, and Ariel tells Jonny are up to read before this one should you wish to do so!
The Secrets of Saltlake: Jonny.
Jonny just sat there. Jaw hanging as if it wasn’t actually attached to his face. A trickle of drool slowly made it’s way down his chin, over the stubble that began its regrowth despite shaving this morning. Or was it tomorrow now? How long exactly had he been sat here? And where was Ariel?
He knew he never made much sense last night. His mind started replay over and over again. The words she had just told him, merging with the images she gave him when she held his hand in hers. How could she do that? Let him see who she was and where she was from as if putting a movie reel of her past on the big screen. Then a silent movie of the life she should have, images passed to her the same way from her parents. Her words narrating a foreign language film he would never understand.
He never said a word, just sat there, stunned. I mean what do you say when your girlfriend tells you she isn’t actually exactly human and she has powers which you couldn’t even imagine in your wildest dreams. He saw the purple. That day at the beach. In her eyes. The flashes matching the lightning at the beach a few weeks earlier. He knew it wasn’t some superstorm like the news channel said. He had convinced himself he had made it up but deep down he knew what he saw in the brief moment despite her telling him otherwise.
Still, he just sat there till Darcy, Ariel’s fluffy white-haired Persian cat wandered up onto his lap and started to nudge his arm.It made sense now that she would have a white cat, the same as the white beach at Saltlake. He would be covered in white fur again from this bloody cat he thought as he became aware that he was still in the Cassidy’s basement. It was morning he realised and he hadn’t been home. Had he slept? He had no idea.
What he did know, however, was that Ariel was more than he thought she was. Princess and rightful heir to the Auragon Galaxy and its legacy to rule with peace and equality for all galaxies under its jurisdiction. He knew Ariel’s mother had fled this world in order to protect Ariel as soon as she reached maturity. So she could stop their immense power being detected before they could return to reclaim their place at the head of Auragon. And he knew that he loved Ariel more today than he did yesterday. More than the very first day he met and possibly more that he could ever express and he needed to see her right now.
What he didn’t know was what would happen now. His heart started pounding in his chest again as the panic rose in his throat and threatened to take over. He stood up and smoothed down his now crumpled navy shirt and white shorts. He has also covered in cat again! He made his way up the wooden stairs from the basement passing the blue and white striped nautical ring on the wall and various seashell accessories that led the way to the kitchen against the white wood covered ceiling above his head. He always thought it was a bit much but Ariel said her mum loved this stuff so they left it as it was. He remembered Ariel’s mum. He remembered grieving for Ariel when they informed the small town of her death. The whole community came together to support Ariel and her dad and still do to this day.
He made it to the kitchen and the natural light flooded his senses as he reached ground level. The open airy kitchen with its floor to ceiling glass walls looking over the beach left nowhere to hide. He was exposed, as was the rest of the house and that’s when he realised he wasn’t alone. Glancing around he clocked more faces than he was expecting and his optimism and excitement to see Ariel dissipated into the suspense choked air clouding his favourite room of the house.
For around the black marble island in the middle of the room sat not only Ariel’s dad but the mayor, chief of police and his dad Judge Marsden and not for the first time all eyes were on him. He heard his dad clear his throat “Son, we have something we need to tell you”
……ooooh So what do they need to tell him and exactly where has she gone? All will be revealed in the next, and last 3 parts. It’s been a long on this one, hasn’t it! I hope you’re still enjoying it.
