My First Online Food Shop

So, today I had my first online food shop. I have been wary about doing it before now due to various reasons.
  1. Will they pick the freshest stuff available?
  2. Will I get what I have ordered?
  3. What if it’s not in stock?
  4. What if it doesn’t turn up?
  5. How will it be stored before it reaches me?
The list could go on but I’m sure I’m not the only one who has doubts about relinquishing the responsibility of choosing the food you will be eating for the week. Or am I just being dramatic about the whole thing? Probably!
I took the plunge! Having signed up to closer diets that very afternoon and also not long got back from a stressful shopping trip to Liverpool 1, I thought what the heck, lets do this thing and headed straight to Asda
Usually I have to get a taxi home so the £3 delivery charge didn’t bother me so much but it was nice to see that different day and times slots were cheaper but as I ordered Saturday night I needed it delivered on the Monday.
At first, in fact no for the whole time, I just found it really confusing, probably as it was my first time but I just didn’t have a clue what I was doing and my basket price just kept rising and rising kind of like the way it does at checkouts so nothing unfamiliar there! Only this time I could see it rising rather than holding my breath as the cashier gets to the last few items, *and exhale* (Told you I was dramatic, if Carlsberg done drama queens………)
Eventually I figured it out and I was sure I had everything I needed  could find and I proceeded to checkout about an hour later, this I found relatively easy. Booked my slot and ta-dah all done and ready to be delivered.

I was given an my hour slot and they arrived exactly halfway through with a very helpful driver who kindly asked if it was my first order, obviously a newbie judging by the random items I ordered, then explained that one of my items wasn’t available but was substituted and I ended up getting something that cost over twice as much for the price of my ordered product! No problems from me here. My chilled items were still chilled and frozen items still frozen so I was panicking over nothing obviously. My fresh items had long dates and of good quality and I received everything I ordered! Not bad. I think this may become a regular thing as there was no stopping of at the kiosk for various items. No buying reduced items I don’t need, or toys/clothes/junk for Olivia to keep her quiet! And no pushing, shoving, trolley rage going on!

Are you an online convert? Or are you unsure like I was?

  1. I checked my dates and they are good dates first time good luck possibly! The item I got subbed was herbs, I ordered asda brand but got the same but schwartz brand instead. I will keep my eye out for any issues thank for the heads up xx

  2. Just be wary of 2 things. Living so close to you I assume u will get the same probs i get with asda.
    1. use by dates – very short!!
    2. Subs not always logical. On Saturday my shop arrived and instead of a packet of smart price sausage rolls – I get smart price cheese n onion rolls. That's not the same product! Another time, I ordered sausage & black pudding slices (think pork ham with the egg middle sandwich slices), they sent me a whole black pudding instead.

Oh… third issue. If you choose a multibuy offer like 3 for £10, you can bet your bottom dollar that one of the items is subbed thus quashing your 3 for £10 deal as, yes ok, you pay the amount that the original choice is priced at but its no longer included in the deal. My bill was always more than anticipated when I trollied multibuys. So I simply don't anymore 🙂

so other than the above – they're alright in our area!!

Sorry for bad grammar, on my phone! Xx

  3. I got so confused lol but great tips thanks. I did check all dates and they are decent for what I got it was my main worry. I bought 'proper' food too it had a lot less junk in than usual x

  4. I do like online shopping for the convenience but I often find I receive 'fresh goods' that are really close to the date. The worst is bananas, always over ripe and need to be gobbled up in one day! I tend to not order fresh fruit and veg online but everything else is fine 🙂 xx

  5. Make sure if anything expires quickly or you aren't happy in anyway that you telephone and complain – you get a full refund for any relevant products. Also, in your head think about how you go around the supermarket and pop things in as you go. I find it great because it stops me buying so much rubbish!
