Making Good Food Easy with Gousto
Have you ever wondered just how lovely it would be to not have to think about what you are cooking for dinner and then make sure you have everything in to make it? I do. Mostly as I am a) a terrible cook and b) a lazy cook and c) totally unadventurous in the kitchen. I really do need help making good food easy and this is where Gousto comes into play.
When I was invited to try out a Gousto box, I was so excited. No, seriously I was. Anything that would help take the pressure off me for finding and cooking new meals, not to mention sourcing all the correct ingredients was welcome in my life.
How Does Gousto make Good Food Easy?
All meals on the Gousto site are developed by chefs who source the best ingredients possible to make their creations and make sure your taste buds are treated well at dinner time.
By simply clicking on the meals for your chosen delivery date, everything is taken care of. All you need is some basic cupboard staples to add in whilst cooking. They take care of everything. From the recipe card with step by step instructions to making sure everything is supplied in the correct quantities, all they leave you to do is the cooking part!
Ordering My Meals.
Ordering is really easy and straightforward. All you need to do is select what day you would like to receive your meals and you will be shown all the options available for that day. Then simply choose how many people you are feeding and it’s as easy as that. Meals are available for 2 or for 4 people. I only need to feed myself and Olivia so I ordered us 2 meals for 2 people.
The Variety of Meals Available.
Now as you would imagine, the options are limited to be able to supply the correct ingredients needed and make sure nothing is wasted. Olivia and I like different foods and are a wee bit fussy. My best bet was to aim for chicken based meals with no rice, curry or pasta to we both could enjoy the meals. I know, awkward right! This wasn’t going to be easy at all.
We (I) chose the Chicken Cacciatore with Crispy Potatoes and American Creamed Corn and Chicken.
How Did They Taste and How Easy Are They To Make?
I really don’t have a lot of skill in the kitchen. OK, no skill in the kitchen. It goes without saying I would need a little extra time to prepare my ingredients before turning them into a culinary masterpiece. If you are more skilled in this area then preparation won’t really be an issue for you. Like it was for me!
Somehow, I managed to follow the really simple instructions set out step by step on the recipe cards provided. It may have taken me a little longer though but I got there in the end and managed to make a meal that was actually edible. Yes, I was worried I would burn it all or give us food poisoning!
Whilst neither meals looked like they did in the pictures, they turned out really well in the end.
My favourite meal was the chicken cacciatore. I loved the tomato based sauce and really enjoyed this meal a lot. Full of flavour and really moreish, even Olivia tried this one. By try I mean she ate the potatoes and tested the chicken. I think that says more about my cooking than the meal though!
The American Chicken and Creamed Corn was the one I was most looking forward too. I have always had this thing with wanting to try creamed corn. It wasn’t for me. This meal comes with a lot of spices to pep up your chicken and usually I love it slightly on the hot side. I erred on the side of caution and went with the less is more option. Personally, I needed it to be more is more and was disappointed I never added all the spices on but the chicken was still enjoyable despite it not having much of a kick to it. Next time I would add it all on definitely. I even enjoyed the sweet potato fried despite not usually being fussed on sweet potato.
Would I Try Again?
Yes absolutely. For me, this wouldn’t be a regular subscription but for a nice meal on a special occasion or for a treat yes I would definitely buy again. The ease of service and lack of effort on my part is enticing and definitely a reason to try again. Also, this may be the way I finally learn some new skills in the kitchen and find that it helps me to make good food easy enough in the future too.
If you would like to try a Gousto box for yourself prices start from £27.99 per box and are available as an ongoing subscription or a one off box. There are no contracts and you can cancel your subscription at any time.
